Sales commission calculator

Estimate simple percentage commission and combine it with base pay for the same period.

Simple percentage commission

Multiply commissionable sales by the commission rate divided by 100. Add base pay from the same week, month, quarter, or other period to estimate gross earnings for that period. The calculator does not subtract taxes or deductions.

Commissionable sales may differ from revenue

A plan may exclude taxes, shipping, discounts, returns, canceled orders, uncollected accounts, house accounts, or specified products. It may pay on gross sales, net sales, gross profit, units, or cash received. Enter only the amount to which the stated rate actually applies.

Tiered plans need separate calculations

This tool applies one rate to the entire entered amount. A tiered plan may apply each rate only to sales within its band, while a retroactive accelerator may apply a higher rate to all eligible sales after a threshold. Quotas, caps, draws, guarantees, bonuses, team splits, and clawbacks also require the written plan rules.

Match the pay periods

Base pay and sales must represent the same period for the combined total to be meaningful. Commission may be earned in one period and paid later. The result is an arithmetic estimate, not a prediction of payroll timing or take-home pay.

Gross commission is not take-home pay

The output does not subtract withholding, payroll tax, benefit deductions, draw recovery, chargebacks, expenses, or later corrections. Keep gross commission, base pay, deductions, and payment date as separate rows when reconciling a plan to payroll records.

Separate employee pay from product contribution

This page estimates compensation under one flat-rate plan. A business may also treat commission as a per-sale variable cost when testing product contribution and break-even, but the same amount must not be counted twice. Use the Break-Even Calculator only after commission and other variable costs are included consistently.

The small-business pricing, margin, and break-even guide connects flat commission arithmetic with realized price, contribution, discounts, fees, fixed costs, and volume. The written compensation plan and payroll record remain authoritative for what an employee earns.

This calculator models one flat commission rate and non-negative base pay. It is not employment, payroll, tax, legal, or financial advice. Verify eligible sales, timing, tiers, deductions, and payment rules in the applicable compensation plan.
