A useful calculator should help you understand an answer—not hide the reasoning, source, uncertainty, or commercial context behind it.
Focused purpose
Each tool starts with a specific, common question. We avoid combining unrelated calculations or collecting information that the formula does not need.
Defined formulas
Explanatory text describes the formula, units, counting convention, or simplifying assumption used by the calculator.
Representative tests
We test ordinary examples, zero values where meaningful, invalid denominators, date boundaries, and rounding behavior. Automated regression checks run across the full tool set.
Honest limits
Every tool identifies an important limitation. Educational calculators are not presented as substitutes for qualified professional advice or official records.
Sources and changing rules
When a calculator depends on a definition, disclosure category, government program, health standard, or other rule, we prefer the responsible agency or another primary authoritative source. Source links are placed near the explanation they support. We do not copy a product rate, contribution limit, tax threshold, or eligibility rule into a long-lived calculator when the user can enter the current value instead.
Pages that discuss changing rules should state the modeling date or link to a current source. A material guide revision receives an updated date in both the visible page and Article structured data. Product documents, official disclosures, account statements, and applicable rules remain authoritative when they differ from a general model.
Calculation review workflow
For a new or materially changed calculator, we identify inputs and units, write the cash-flow or conversion steps, define invalid and boundary cases, and compare representative outputs with independent arithmetic. Automated tests cover normal examples and failure conditions. Site-level checks then verify unique metadata, structured data, local links, directory coverage, asset versions, sitemap entries, and feed entries.
Passing tests proves only the cases and invariants those tests cover. It does not turn an estimate into an official disclosure, professional opinion, or guarantee. Each calculator therefore explains assumptions and limitations alongside the result.
Human-readable interface standard
A calculator is not useful merely because its arithmetic is correct. It should tell a visitor what to gather, group inputs in the order a real decision is made, use familiar labels, and explain why an unfamiliar value matters. Guided steps should ordinarily expose no more than three related decision inputs at once. Repeated records, compact option sets, and advanced controls may use a different layout when that is clearer than forcing unnecessary clicks.
Conditional fields stay hidden or disabled until they apply. File tools reveal editing or output settings only after a source is ready. A result leads with the quantity or comparison needed for the decision, keeps secondary detail subordinate, and states important omissions without false precision. Mobile use, keyboard access, understandable validation, reset behavior, and the ability to finish without an account are part of the review—not decorative extras.
Precision and rounding
Calculations use JavaScript’s standard floating-point arithmetic. Results are rounded for readability according to the task. Extra displayed digits do not make an approximate input more accurate.
Privacy by design
Inputs are calculated locally in the browser. The current tools do not send the values entered into forms to Gypes. Standard hosting and security logs are described in the privacy policy.
Advertising and editorial independence
Gypes may earn revenue from automatically placed advertising. Advertisers do not set calculator formulas, results, assumptions, warnings, related-tool links, or editorial conclusions. Entering the same values produces the same result regardless of which advertisement appears. Paid placement is not used to rank a lender, card, investment, insurer, or other financial product because Gypes does not currently publish product rankings or individualized recommendations.
Advertising supports site operation but does not create a professional-client relationship or an endorsement. Ads should remain distinguishable from calculator controls and site navigation. Report a placement that obscures content, resembles a control, or interferes with completing a calculation through the contact page.
Professional review and authorship
Gypes publishes these tools as an independent educational calculator site. A page does not claim review by a licensed financial adviser, accountant, attorney, physician, engineer, or other regulated professional unless that review is explicitly identified on the page. High-stakes decisions should be checked against current official documents and appropriately qualified guidance.
Review and corrections
Pages are reviewed when formulas, assumptions, standards, or user feedback indicate a change is needed. If you find an error, email [email protected] with the page address, input values, expected result, and observed result.
