Plot functions on a Cartesian grid
Enter up to three expressions using x as the independent variable. The calculator evaluates each expression across the visible horizontal range and maps finite real results to the selected vertical range. Grid lines, tick labels, and axes provide scale. Each function uses a different color and appears in the legend below the graph.
Supported expression notation
Use explicit operators: +, −, *, /, %, ^, and factorial. Parentheses control order. Functions include trigonometry, inverse trigonometry, square root, natural and base-10 logarithms, absolute value, exponential, and rounding operations. In radian mode, sin(pi/2) equals 1; degree mode interprets sin(90) as 1.
Discontinuities and visible ranges
The plot samples many x-values and breaks the line when a result is not finite or jumps far outside the visible graph. This reduces—but cannot eliminate—false connections across asymptotes. Narrower ranges reveal more detail. A graph is a numerical approximation and can miss roots, extrema, oscillations, holes, or behavior between samples.
Check the picture with known points
Before trusting a curve, calculate several values independently. For y = x² − 4, the points (−2, 0), (0, −4), and (2, 0) verify both intercepts and the vertex. If the graph does not pass through them, check parentheses, exponent notation, angle mode, and visible range. For a rational function, separately solve where the denominator is zero and expect a gap or asymptote there. Zooming can reveal behavior but cannot prove that sampling found every crossing. Use algebraic or numerical solving designed for the question when an exact root, intersection, maximum, or error bound is required.
This tool draws real-valued explicit functions y = f(x). It does not solve equations, prove properties, plot implicit or parametric relations, or replace validated mathematical software for consequential work.
