What the monthly payment tells you
The monthly payment is the equal amount required to repay the entered principal and interest over the selected term. It is also commonly called an equated monthly installment (EMI). “Loan payment” and “EMI” describe the same fixed-payment idea in this calculator, so there is no need to use two separate tools.
Start with the payment to check cash-flow fit, but do not stop there. The total-interest figure shows the price of stretching repayment over time. A longer term can make the monthly amount feel easier while increasing the amount paid to the lender.
How to read the schedule
Each payment first covers interest on the outstanding balance; the remainder reduces principal. Early payments generally contain more interest because the balance is larger. The annual rows group the underlying monthly calculation so you can see that shift without scanning hundreds of lines.
The first-payment split makes this especially visible. The final payment may differ by a tiny amount from the displayed monthly figure because the model closes the remaining mathematical balance rather than leaving a rounding residue.
What to enter
- Loan amount: the amount financed after the down payment, including only fees that will be added to the balance.
- Interest rate: the fixed nominal annual rate used to accrue interest, divided by 12 in this model.
- Term: the exact number of scheduled monthly payments, entered as years plus additional months.
Interest rate is not always APR
A quoted annual percentage rate may reflect lender charges that the note rate does not. This calculator does not infer fees from APR. For a fee-aware annualized estimate, use the loan APR calculator. To compare two offers with different rates, terms, and fees, use the loan comparison calculator.
What this estimate leaves out
The model excludes origination charges paid in cash, taxes, insurance, optional products, daily interest, irregular first periods, late fees, prepayments, balloon payments, payment holidays, floating-rate resets, and lender-specific rounding. Currency selection changes display formatting only; it does not perform an exchange-rate conversion.
This is an educational fixed-rate scenario, not a lender quote, approval, or financial recommendation. Confirm the official repayment schedule, APR, fees, payment dates, prepayment rules, and total amount repayable before signing a loan.
