What this tool creates
The digital download is a square 600×600 pixel JPEG. The print-sheet download is a 1200×1800 pixel JPEG containing six identical 2×2 photos arranged on a 4×6 inch canvas at 300 pixels per inch. When printing the sheet, choose the printer option for actual size or 100% scale. Do not use “fit to page,” because that can change the physical dimensions.
How to position the photo
Start with a well-lit photo that includes the head and upper shoulders. Use zoom and the horizontal or vertical controls until the face is centered, the entire head is visible, and there is a small amount of space above the hair. The guide oval is approximate and is never burned into the downloaded image. This version does not perform facial recognition or make a biometric pass-or-fail decision.
Official US photo rules still apply
A US passport photo must be a recent color photo with a clear likeness, a neutral expression, both eyes open, and a plain white or off-white background. Face the camera directly. Avoid shadows, blur, filters, retouching, digital background replacement, uniforms, headphones, and glasses. Religious or medical exceptions can apply to some coverings; follow the current instructions for the application you are submitting.
Digital size is not the whole compliance test
This tool checks the source type and creates known output dimensions, but it cannot reliably judge identity, recency, expression, gaze, pose, lighting, focus, background uniformity, or whether an authority will accept the result. Review the current US Department of State passport photo requirements and examples before submitting. Rules and online upload requirements can change.
Your photo stays on the device
The selected file is decoded, cropped, and encoded with browser canvas APIs. Gypes does not intentionally upload the source or generated photos. Canvas export normally strips source metadata such as camera details and GPS data, but browser behavior can vary. Keep your original file until the application is complete.
