Illustrative bedtime and wake-time options
The calculator shows options for six, five, and four 90-minute intervals. Six intervals equal 9 hours, five equal 7.5 hours, and four equal 6 hours of modeled sleep. The fall-asleep allowance is added before those intervals when calculating wake times and subtracted when calculating bedtimes.
Why the result is only an estimate
Real sleep cycles do not run on an exact universal 90-minute clock. Their length and composition vary between people and across the night, and time in bed is not the same as time asleep. Stress, illness, medications, substances, pain, environment, schedule changes, and sleep disorders can all affect sleep onset and continuity.
Sleep duration matters more than hitting a cycle boundary
For healthy adults, professional guidance generally emphasizes getting at least seven hours regularly, while individual needs vary. A four-interval result represents only 6 modeled hours and is displayed for comparison, not as a recommendation. A calculator cannot determine your sleep need or diagnose why you feel tired.
