Local stereo channel check

Speaker test

Play a gentle generated tone through the left channel, right channel, or both to check basic output and stereo routing.

Before playing: lower the device volume, remove headphones from your ears, and increase volume gradually.

Check left and right audio channels

Begin at a low listening level. Select “Play left” and confirm the tone is heard only from the physical left speaker or earpiece, then repeat for the right side. “Play both” sends the same tone to both channels. The sequence button plays left and then right with a short silent interval, which can make swapped channels easier to identify.

The tone is generated locally

JavaScript creates a short stereo audio buffer at the chosen frequency, applies a brief fade at both ends to reduce clicks, and routes samples to the requested channel. No audio file is downloaded or uploaded. The tool’s volume control is deliberately capped, but the final acoustic level also depends on every downstream hardware and software control.

Why stereo may not remain stereo

A browser, accessibility setting, operating system, Bluetooth profile, cable, adapter, receiver, amplifier, or speaker can mix the channels to mono or remap them. Some phone and laptop speakers have limited separation. If both sides sound during a one-channel test, check mono-audio accessibility settings and confirm the same result with another known stereo source.

What this test does not measure

Hearing a tone confirms only basic playback and routing at that frequency. It does not measure frequency response, distortion, polarity, phase, latency, maximum output, noise, impedance, power handling, room acoustics, or hearing ability. A missing tone can also come from a muted tab, wrong output device, disconnected cable, or unsupported browser audio.

Loud sound can damage hearing and equipment. Keep the starting volume low, stop immediately if the sound is uncomfortable or distorted, and do not use this page to test maximum volume or power.
