Check a webcam before a call
Start the camera, allow browser access, and confirm the picture is sharp, stable, correctly oriented, and framed as expected. The reported resolution and frame rate come from the active browser media track when available. A requested resolution is a preference; the browser and camera may return the closest supported mode.
Camera choice and mirroring
Browsers usually reveal camera names only after permission is granted. After the first start, use the camera menu to switch among available devices. Mirroring changes only this page’s preview and captured snapshot; it does not reconfigure the camera or another meeting application. Many call apps mirror the self-view while sending an unmirrored image to other participants.
Private local preview
Video frames and snapshots are processed in the current browser and are not intentionally uploaded to Gypes. Camera access begins only after an explicit button selection. The media track stops when “Stop camera” is selected, the page is hidden, or the page is left. The browser or operating system can deny or revoke access at any time.
What this test cannot verify
A successful preview does not prove that another app has the same camera, permission, resolution, network capacity, encoding, microphone, or virtual-background settings. This page cannot measure call bandwidth or the quality another participant receives. If another app fails, close software that may be using the camera, check that app’s device menu and permissions, reconnect the camera, and retry.
Keep sensitive, confidential, copyrighted, medical, financial, or identifying material out of the camera view. Inspect a downloaded snapshot before sharing it and use the browser’s site controls to remove camera permission when desired.
