Compress scanned or image-heavy PDFs in the browser
Every page is rendered at the selected dots per inch, encoded as a JPEG image, and placed on a same-size page in a newly created PDF. Lower DPI reduces pixel count; lower JPEG quality discards more image detail. The result section reports the actual source and output sizes. Some documents—especially short, text-first, or already optimized PDFs—can become larger instead of smaller.
This is deliberately not described as lossless
Rasterization replaces the original page objects with pixels. Searchable and selectable text, live hyperlinks, fillable form fields, accessibility tags, layers, annotations, vector sharpness, embedded files, bookmarks, document metadata, and digital signatures are not preserved. Optical character recognition is not performed. Keep the original whenever those properties matter.
Choose settings based on the document
At 72 DPI, small print and fine diagrams may be difficult to read. The balanced 96 DPI option suits many screen-viewed scans, while 144 DPI retains more detail at the cost of memory and file size. JPEG artifacts are most visible around text and hard edges. Check every page at normal and zoomed views before emailing, archiving, printing, or submitting the result.
Processing occurs in the current browser and the selected PDF is not intentionally uploaded to Gypes. This tool does not guarantee a target size, acceptable evidence quality, regulatory compliance, or archival suitability. Only process and share documents when you have the necessary rights and permission.
